LEGO® The Orient Express Train 21344
LEGO® The Orient Express Train 21344
Step aboard one of the most legendary trains in history — a spectacular 2,540-piece LEGO® Ideas recreation of the Orient Express, complete with luxurious passenger cars, eight characters and more than a metre of Golden Age railway elegance.
LEGO® The Orient Express Train 21344 brings the glamour of historic European rail travel to the shelf with an enormous adult display model inspired by the world-famous luxury train that first began carrying passengers in 1883.
Stretching to an impressive 116 cm in length, this is a LEGO® train designed to command attention.
The complete model includes a steam locomotive, tender, dining car and sleeping car, together with sections of railway track that turn the entire build into a ready-made display.
And the real luxury begins once the roofs come off.
Both passenger cars feature removable roofs that reveal richly detailed interiors, allowing the craftsmanship hidden inside the train to remain visible long after the building experience is complete.
The dining car recreates the atmosphere of first-class rail travel with cosy tables, decorative inlaid wood-style panels and an elegant bar area.
Behind the bar are green bottles and mirror-effect details designed to resemble cut glass, creating the kind of small touches that make the interior feel more like a miniature luxury carriage than a conventional LEGO® train.
Move into the sleeping car and the level of detail continues.
The first-class compartment features a bed with a mirror effect above it, while decorative panels and carefully furnished spaces recreate the refined atmosphere associated with long-distance luxury travel.
There is even an Orient Express backgammon board, adding another wonderfully specific detail for passengers enjoying the journey between cities.
The exterior has not been forgotten either.
Decorations along the train reference the famous Paris–Istanbul route, directly connecting the finished model to the journeys that made the Orient Express legendary.
And unlike many adult display models, this train is not empty.
The set includes 8 LEGO® minifigures: a duchess, conductor, train driver, waiter, railway station manager, scientist, writer and film director, creating an entire cast of passengers and railway staff around the model.
A buildable luggage trolley and assorted accessories help complete the station and travel atmosphere.
There is also a clever connection to the set’s origins: the film director minifigure is based on Thomas Lajon, the LEGO® fan designer whose Orient Express concept reached 10,000 supporters and was selected through the LEGO Ideas programme.
That fan-designed history is especially fitting here.
Thomas Lajon created the original Ideas project from his own fascination with trains and luxury transport, and the official set was released in 2023 to celebrate 140 years since the Orient Express began operating.
For train enthusiasts, 21344 has another important feature.
The model is built for L Gauge and is compatible with the LEGO® track system, while dedicated locomotive elements were created for details such as the coupling rods, whistle and funnel.
That gives the set genuine railway appeal beyond its impressive appearance.
But its greatest strength may simply be its presence.
At over 12 cm high, 116 cm long and 8 cm wide, the completed Orient Express stretches across more than a metre of shelf space — long enough for the locomotive and both passenger cars to feel properly proportioned rather than compressed into a small display.
With 2,540 pieces, this is also a substantial adult building project.
The locomotive provides the mechanical character, the passenger cars deliver the interior detail and the eight minifigures make the finished train feel like it is preparing to depart rather than sitting empty on the tracks.
It is a model for train collectors, travel enthusiasts and anyone drawn to an era when the journey itself was meant to feel as remarkable as the destination.
Originally released in December 2023, LEGO® The Orient Express Train 21344 is now approaching an important point in its lifecycle.
LEGO® currently marks the set as “Retiring soon.”
For a large licensed LEGO® Ideas model this distinctive, that matters.
Once production ends, another railway set would not automatically replace this exact combination of the Orient Express licence, 116 cm train, luxury interiors, eight-character cast and fan-designed Ideas heritage.
And with a model this large, there is very little chance of mistaking it for just another LEGO® locomotive.
The deep blue carriages, elegant gold detailing and extraordinary length turn the finished Orient Express into the kind of display that becomes the centrepiece of an entire train collection.
