For longtime Sonic the Hedgehog™ fans, Crabmeat is instantly familiar.
The mechanical crab is one of Dr. Eggman’s classic Badnik enemies, dating all the way back to Sonic’s earliest video-game adventures. LEGO® Badnik: Crabmeat 40781 transforms that colourful gaming villain into a substantial 181-piece buildable character designed for both play and display.
Crabmeat has movable arms, legs and eyestalks, plus opening claws, allowing the model to be positioned in different action poses.
And there is a brilliant little Sonic detail hidden inside.
Open the Badnik to reveal a secret compartment containing Tocky, the captured animal friend trapped inside the machine — recreating the classic Sonic idea of freeing innocent animals from Dr. Eggman’s robotic enemies.
Crabmeat stands on a colourful Green Hill Zone-style display base, immediately connecting the model to one of the most recognisable environments in Sonic the Hedgehog™ history. The character can also be removed from the stand for play and returned afterwards for display.
Standing over 11 cm tall, the finished model has enough presence for a desk, gaming setup or LEGO® Sonic display without taking up much space.
There is also an interesting story behind the set itself.
Badnik: Crabmeat 40781 was originally released in February 2025 as a LEGO® Insiders reward for 2,000 points, rather than launching as a conventional mainstream Sonic set.
That original promotional background makes it particularly fun for Sonic collectors — especially fans who enjoy the more unusual characters from the games rather than only Sonic, Tails and Knuckles.
It also makes an excellent small gaming gift. Someone who grew up racing through Green Hill Zone may recognise Crabmeat immediately, while younger Sonic fans get a wonderfully strange robotic crab with movable claws and a tiny rescued animal hidden inside.
