Long before GPS and satellite navigation, sailors relied on extraordinarily accurate marine chronometers to help determine their position at sea.
LEGO® Chronometer 5009045 turns that fascinating piece of nautical history into a compact 150-piece display model, housed inside an elegant brick-built wooden-style case with decorative gold detailing.
Open the hinged-looking presentation box and inside sits the chronometer itself, featuring a printed clock face mounted within a tilting mechanism, inspired by the gimbal systems used to help real marine chronometers remain level as ships moved through the sea.
The dark-brown case is part of the charm. Gold-coloured decorative elements on the lid and reinforced corner details give the model the appearance of a miniature precision instrument preserved inside an old maritime navigation box.
At approximately 8 cm wide, 8 cm deep and 5 cm high, the finished model is small enough for a desk or bookshelf but distinctive enough to become a conversation piece among larger LEGO® displays.
