LEGO® A Minifigure Tribute 40504 was created as the 2023 LEGO® House Limited Edition, celebrating the 45th anniversary of the LEGO minifigure — one of the most important little characters in the history of the LEGO Group.
And for that celebration, LEGO chose a legend.
The 1,041-piece model recreates Captain Redbeard, the iconic pirate captain from the 1989 LEGO® Pirates set Black Seas Barracuda 6285, at a dramatically enlarged scale.
Standing approximately 30 cm tall, the build preserves all the details that made the classic pirate instantly recognisable: his hook hand, peg leg, shoulder epaulettes and black captain’s hat with Jolly Roger emblem.
LEGO® House also added details created especially for this tribute model.
Captain Redbeard wears a blue LEGO® House wristband on his hook, while the treasure map in his hand contains hidden references to the designers behind the set. The display base is finished with printed “A Minifigure Tribute” and “LEGO® House” tiles.
The historical connection goes even deeper. The LEGO minifigure itself first appeared in 1978, and LEGO® House created 40504 specifically to celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2023.
And then there is the exclusivity.
A Minifigure Tribute 40504 is a genuine LEGO® House Limited Edition, officially available only from LEGO® House in Billund, Denmark.
That means obtaining one directly is very different from simply ordering an ordinary LEGO® set online — it comes from LEGO’s own “Home of the Brick”.
This particular new example is signed by the designer of the set, adding a highly desirable personal connection to the creation of the model itself.
For a serious LEGO® collector, that makes this example considerably more special than a standard sealed copy. It combines the limited LEGO® House distribution, the history of Captain Redbeard and the minifigure, and the autograph of the person directly involved in designing the set.
